Legal Assistant/Paralegal

The Fitch Law Firm is a small personal injury law firm based in Columbus, Ohio seeking a full-time Legal Assistant to join our team to help with case management, administrative, and legal tasks.

You will provide the firm with a variety of legal services under the supervision of an attorney. As a legal assistant, you will be tasked with a variety of duties to support lawyers, including drafting documents, conducting legal research, and organizing files. The ideal candidate for this position has a strong work ethic, exceptional communication skills, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Training and support will be provided to you as well from the lawyers and support staff.

Schedule (flexible):

Hours: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm Monday through Thursday and 8:00 am
– 2:00 pm on Friday (35.5 hours per week)

Responsibilities include:

  • Screen, direct, and prioritize incoming calls and emails to lawyers and other support staff
  • Draft, proofread, and file or send legal documents, such as motions or pleadings
  • Maintain case files, including client communications and court deadlines
  • Perform administrative duties, such as managing calendars, scheduling appointments, conferences, and depositions, and handling routine correspondence
  • Perform legal and background research when requested

Qualifications:

  • Adapt to changing priorities and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines in a fast-paced legal environment
  • 1-3 years of experience as a Legal Assistant, Paralegal or Legal Secretary
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies, or prior experience as a paralegal or assistant is preferred but not required
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, and must be able to professionally and appropriately communicate with a diverse group of individuals
  • Must demonstrate technical proficiency and the capability of performing at an intermediate level with respect to the Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with capability to work independently on projects, planning and organizing
  • Experience handling sensitive and/or confidential information is preferred but not required
