About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Legal Auditor to join our dynamic Claims team. This role will interface primarily with Skyward’s outside legal bill auditing software provider and will handle the final step in the review and analysis process of submitted legal and vendor invoices for reasonableness and accuracy and ensure compliance with Skyward’s billing guidelines.
The bill audit process will also serve to identify and document litigation and vendor issues and trends, and to provide reports and constructive feedback to senior claim management and staff in areas where there may be strengths to build upon, or weaknesses presenting opportunities for improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Following review and analysis by the outside legal bill auditing software, conduct a review of invoices submitted to ensure the charges are reasonable and in compliance with Skyward’s billing guidelines; independently override any decision made by the outside auditing software and provide an appropriate explanation for any disallowed charges
- Review and determine validity of appeals made by any law firm/attorney or other vendors as may be needed.
- Conduct a review of invoices submitted by claim-related vendors to ensure the charges are reasonable and in compliance with any applicable guidelines or contracts.
- Assist with vetting of law firms to add as approved counsel or to use at the request of insureds; assist with negotiating and setting law firm rates as needed.
- Collaborate with members of Claims teams, other business units and external business partners involved in the billing process to ensure efficiency and consistency in the billing process.
- Use legal audit data and dashboards to make sound decisions on approved counsel effectiveness; produce meaningful written reports from the legal audit data with a focus on law firm performance and compliance with Skyward expectations and protocols; provide recommendations for improvement in the litigation or claim handling process as may be appropriate.
- Conduct other vendor reviews or analyses as needed
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree is required
- Familiarity with legal bill auditing software is required
- Prior experience in a similar or related legal bill audit, claims technical auditing, quality assurance and/or compliance role is highly preferred
- 3 years+ of experience handling a broad range of litigated commercial liability and/or specialty claims is highly desirable
- Experience as a litigation paralegal or as a litigation attorney is highly desirable.
- Working knowledge of Commercial Auto, General Liability, Commercial Property, and Professional Liability claim handling processes, policies, practices, and procedures.
- Understanding of accepted litigation processes and claim handling requirements across multiple lines of business and jurisdictions

Compensation & Benefits
The applicable base salary for this opportunity is $110,000 - $120,000. The base pay offered will be determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. In addition to the base salary, this opportunity is eligible for performance-based incentives.
