Role: Legal Counsel reporting into Contract Leader for Asia Pacific region – Secondment role on contract for 3 to 6 months

About the role:

The Secondee Legal Counsel will support the Client’s business and will be based in Bangalore, India. This role reports to the Contracts Leader for the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. The successful candidate will provide strategic legal counsel to senior management, draft and negotiate complex international agreements, and proactively identify and mitigate legal risks. The role also involves developing internal legal and compliance frameworks to support business operations and reduce exposure to litigation.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary legal secondee for contract review and management across the APAC region (excluding India and China), ensuring alignment with the Client’s standard processes and contractual practices.
  • Draft, negotiate, and manage a wide range of commercial agreements, including customer sales contracts, supply and distribution agreements, licensing arrangements, joint development agreements, NDAs, and more.
  • Serve as the legal point of contact for the Client’s business in APAC (excluding India and China), collaborating with regional leadership and functional teams to deliver timely and effective legal support.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders—project managers, legal counsel, procurement, and executives—to develop contract strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Provide legal analysis and guidance on commercial law, intellectual property, compliance, product liability, and risk assessment for potential transactions.
  • Conduct preventive legal training on topics such as competition law, contracting best practices, IP protection, anti-corruption regulations (e.g., FCPA, PCA), and workplace policies.



Requirements

Qualifications – Must Have:


· Bachelor’s degree in law.

· 6–8 years of relevant experience in a major law firm and/or corporate legal department.

· Proven experience negotiating complex international infrastructure contracts, preferably in the Oil & Gas sector.


Preferred Skills & Attributes:


· Strong experience in multinational business transactions, including M&A, joint ventures, and commercial agreements.

· Prior exposure to legal negotiations in the Oil & Gas industry is highly desirable.

· High intellectual capacity and commitment to excellence.

· Strong communication skills and executive presence to influence senior stakeholders.

· Ability to work independently and drive initiatives with minimal supervision.

· Demonstrated ability to provide pragmatic legal advice aligned with business goals and cultural nuances across jurisdictions.
