Legal Counsel

General Summary:

The Corporate Counsel will play a key leadership role in managing the legal function for a not for profit organization. This position is ideal for someone with a strong interest in operations and strategic execution, working closely with the CEO to guide organizational direction while supporting a diverse portfolio of education and non-education corporations.

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Reduce the use of external counsel and manages legal billing
• Coordinate and manage legal responses to enhance strategic and operations across multiple entities
• Draft - contracts, governance, leases, and other as necessary
• Develop - written products, including policy briefs, research memos, and presentations.
• Perform other miscellaneous duties as required by the CEO

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Excellent research, writing, and editing skills, and a strategic and operational, analytical mind
• Strong oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively distill and present complex information in a concise way
• Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work independently, as well as in a team setting.
• Efficient, organized work style and an ability to prioritize quickly and confidently and manage multiple deadlines
• Ability to make decisions, exercising reasonable judgment with minimal guidance and/or supervision
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and demonstrate problem-solving skills, while maintaining diplomacy, courtesy
• Ability to change direction as priorities shift and thrive in environments that require the ability to adapt to changing circumstances
• Travel if/when required
• Seeking an ambitious, forward-thinking professional with a passion for strategic execution

Experience:

• Juris Doctor Degree from an ABA accredited law school and admittance to the State Bar of California is required
