Legal Counsel, Litigation

Overview:

Under the supervision of the Deputy General Counsel and Senior Legal Counsel, Litigation, this role includes handling commercial litigation, investigations, and negotiation of resolutions to commercial matters on behalf of the company. This role also counsels the business on routine matters related to the resolution of commercial disputes.

Responsibilities:

• Manages offensive and defensive commercial litigation through the litigation lifecycle, including conducting internal investigations, responding to demands, and negotiating resolutions
• Formulates and drives strategy on pending and threatened claims and litigation
• Investigates, assesses and advises on or directly responds to pre-litigation claims and disputes, including providing practical advice on risk, claim, litigation and regulatory issues to internal teams
• Reviews and assists with discovery requests associated with commercial litigation
• Partners with and manages outside counsel and vendors on commercial litigation matters
• Reviews and comments on briefs and motions prepared by outside counsel
• Attends depositions, mediations, hearings and trials; and in some instances, the primary handling of same will be expected
• Assists with analysis of insurance coverage issues
• Researches and interprets laws, rulings, and regulations impacting the business
• Provides advice, counsel, and training to non-lawyer staff

Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience
• Juris Doctor degree licensed by a state bar
• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently
• Excellent project management skills
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
• Outstanding communication skills with the ability to communicate legal advice within all levels of the organization, including to non-lawyers
• Demonstrable capacity to identify and resolve legal issues
