About the business area

Our Legal & Board Secretariat team works with internal and external stakeholders to advise on legal and company secretarial issues, including corporate governance activities, all banking and corporate legal issues and certain types of litigation affecting our business activities and assets. We provide professional legal services for Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) and its subsidiaries by addressing legal risks, providing creative solutions, and identifying opportunities for our business partners. As a key control partner for ADCB, we understand the businesses we support and their ultimate customer, shareholder and employee goals. The Legal & Board Secretariat team advices ADCB on remaining in line with international financial services regulations and legislation. Our experts collaborate with stakeholders all over the bank to deal with a wide range of critical business issues – from banking, corporate and commercial laws to litigation, investigations, mergers and acquisitions and governance.

We are actively seeking an ambitious professional to join our team at ADCB to work alongside passionate colleagues who share your ambition to redefine excellence in banking.

In this role, your key responsibilities include :

• Provide advice to the business on the legal implications of commercial decisions and transaction structures under the guidance of Senior Legal Counsel.
• Manage simple to moderately complex transactions by liaising with external counsel (if required) and the business to achieve commercial aims and provide necessary drafting and project management support to Documentation Unit.
• Manage the initial steps to anticipate, identify and manage legal risks including proactively identifying legal issues and progressing team efforts to improve legal risks and the bank’s legal infrastructure at an appropriate cost.
• Assist with training colleagues across the bank on legal issues and generally increasing awareness of legal issues.
• Assist with selecting and managing external counsel and ensuring that external counsel service and costs are appropriate at all times.

The ideal candidate should have the following experience:

• At least 4 years of legal experience (where appropriate, in banking/finance or other required and relevant areas of specialism, such as commercial law) from a reputable/recognized law firm and/or regional or international bank.
• Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized/reputable university in law, or another degree and a recognized conversion course.
• Admission to practice in a civil or common law country desirable (but not required).
• Problem solving skills, analytical skills
• Good communication skills
• Early leadership skills
• Drafting capabilities and expert written and spoken English / Arabic skills are essential.
