Job Description

Are you a typist who can think as fast as you type? Nexus Law Firm is seeking a highly skilled and responsive Legal Dictation Specialist to provide direct, real-time drafting support to a senior solicitor.

This is not a traditional transcription role. You will be the solicitor's right hand, drafting complex legal documents live as they are dictated—whether in person, over the phone, or via video conference. Your role is to seamlessly convert spoken thoughts, legal arguments, and client instructions into accurately formatted, polished documents, dramatically increasing our firm's efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft legal documents in real-time from live dictation, including correspondence, witness statements, attendance notes, and court pleadings.
• Actively listen to capture complex legal concepts and instructions with a high degree of accuracy as they are being articulated.
• Instantly apply correct legal formatting, spelling, and grammar during the dictation process.
• Work collaboratively with the solicitor, clarifying points as needed to ensure the final document is precise.
• Review and proofread documents after dictation sessions to ensure perfection.
• Maintain absolute confidentiality and discretion regarding sensitive case information.
• Manage and organize digital documents and files efficiently.

Qualifications and Skills

• Essential: Demonstrable experience in a live dictation or high-speed transcription role. Legal experience is strongly preferred.
• Non-Negotiable: Exceptional typing speed (minimum 65 WPM) with extreme accuracy.
• Crucial: Superior listening comprehension and the ability to concentrate for extended periods.
• Excellent command of the English language, including grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.
• In-depth knowledge of legal terminology and the formatting of various legal documents.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word is a must, including the use of styles and advanced formatting tools.
• A calm, patient, and adaptable demeanor, able to work with a solicitor's natural thought and speech patterns.
• Familiarity with shorthand or other speed-writing techniques is highly advantageous but not required.
