Legal Director

To manage and lead the provision of legal advisory services across JCDC to ensure all interests are effectively protected and ensure compliance with applicable local and/or international laws, frameworks, and regulations.

Key Accountabilities:

Legal Management

  • Oversee and provide legal advice to JCDC Leadership on the legal implications of new and critical projects and deals. Protect the organization's interests, minimize liabilities, and ensure compliance with all applicable local and international laws, rules, and regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures.
  • Manage all legal aspects of partnerships, from pre-contract risk assessment to execution. Ensure that legal implications are assessed, managed, and mitigated. Align these processes with business objectives and protect corporate interests.
  • Negotiate and provide technical assistance with potential partners and key industry players. Effectively represents JCDC interests from a legal perspective and resolve complex issues and matters.
  • Oversee and revise developed agreements and contracts and other relevant documentation.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to protect JCDC’s interests and align with business objectives and requirements.
  • Manage the development and updating of legal standard terms of business and standard form precedents to ensure consistent use across the organization.
  • Oversee the negotiation and settlement processes on behalf of JCDC, working closely in consultation with the General Counsel to avoid litigation, reach consensus, and achieve settlements. Ensure that all legal issues are resolved promptly with minimal impact on the organization's reputation.
  • Manage the resolution of all litigations or court proceedings, where necessary, and external legal counsel, when required, to defend JCDC against any claim or legal action taken against it.
  • Take necessary legal measures to protect JCDC's intellectual property rights, ensuring safeguarding against infringement.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Monitor and assess the regulatory environment concerning legal activities. Provide advice to the CEO, General Counsel, and departments regarding its impact on strategy and business plans.
  • Perform legal research to remain updated on new Saudi regulations that may affect the business.
  • Oversee the development and update of legal standard terms of business and standard form precedents to ensure consistent use across the organization.

Strategy Development and Implementation

  • Develop and implement the department strategy, ensuring alignment with the divisional strategy, JCDC’s vision, mission, and corporate objectives.
  • Ensure that department strategy and related strategic plans are developed and implemented in accordance with the General Counsel's direction and are aligned with the organization's vision and mission.
  • Ensure the provision of subject matter expertise for the assigned domain and counsel JCDC leadership on all related areas to facilitate the achievement of JCDC’s and divisional strategies.

Leadership

  • Manage the effective achievement of departmental objectives through effective leadership and by setting individual objectives, managing performance, developing and motivating the teams to maximize performance.
  • Lead the talent development initiatives for the General Counsel department, collaborating with discipline experts and ensuring talent availability to fit business requirements.

Budgeting and Financial Performance

  • Oversee the consolidation and recommend the department budget and monitor financial performance versus the budget so that the business is aware of anticipated costs/revenues, areas of unsatisfactory performance are identified, and potential areas of cost reduction or performance improvement opportunities are capitalized upon.

Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures

  • Develop and lead the implementation of the department’s policies, systems, processes, procedures, and controls so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering quality, cost-effective service consistently.

Change Management

  • Lead the management of change through continuous improvement of department systems, processes, and practices, considering global standards and changes in the business environment, which demand proactive action plans.

Reporting

  • Ensure that all department reports are prepared timely and accurately and meet JCDC requirements, policies, and quality standards.

Qualification, Experience, & Skills:

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in law or a related field from a reputable university. (Master’s degree preferred).
  • MOJ Law Practice License (A Must).

Minimum Experience:

  • 12 years of experience in a similar field – 3 years in managerial role.

Job-Specific Skills (Generic / Technical):

  • Excellent knowledge of Law and regulatory affairs, leads projects, contributes strategically.
  • Excellent use of English (must) and Arabic language (must).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively present information.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technology tools and software used within the organization.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the cultural and professional environment in KSA and the GCC region.
  • In-depth understanding of market practices and laws, shapes policies and ensures compliance.
  • Mastery of technical skills, innovates, mentors, and implements best practices.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in essential soft skills as per JCDC Competency Framework based on the role’s level of responsibility.
