Legal Nurse Analyst/Legal Nurse Consultant

Louisville, United States

The Legal Nurse Consultant (LNC), our “nurse analyst” , plays a pivotal role in analyzing medical and nursing issues in professional liability matters and long-term care litigation, and provides critical, hands-on support to the firm’s attorneys in delivering high-quality legal services. This is a full-time, on-site position at Oldham Law’s Louisville, KY office.

Oldham Law, based in Louisville, Kentucky, represents and advocates for health care and commercial clients of every kind, with a particular focus on skilled nursing and elder-care companies, facilities, and individuals. With more than 75 years of combined experience in health care and commercial litigation, our philosophy is simple: bring an investigative mindset to every matter and dig deep to uncover answers, approaches, and winning strategies for our clients. Our command of the health-care landscape lets us deliver efficient, tailored solutions for each client we serve.

What You'll Do:

  • Support case evaluation. Assist attorneys and litigation paralegals in assessing nursing home matters, long-term acute care hospital cases, product liability claims, and other assigned files, working under attorney supervision and in accordance with firm case-management protocols.
  • Own the medical/nursing workstream. Obtain, organize, and synthesize medical records and related documentation; conduct targeted medical research; coordinate with expert witnesses; and assist with drafting pleadings and client reports.
  • Manage records. Maintain thoroughly organized, indexed medical records in digital and/or paper form as directed by supervising attorneys.
  • Build chronologies. Create detailed medical chronologies and clear narrative summaries from clinical records.
  • Research the science. Perform medical and scientific literature reviews, current and historical, to support defenses and challenge claims.
  • Shape defense strategy. Collaborate with attorneys to develop case theory and strategy grounded in the medical record and diagnoses.
  • Coordinate experts. Identify, vet, and retain expert witnesses; manage communications and logistics.
  • Prepare expert materials. Determine, assemble, and organize all materials needed for expert review (records, imaging, timelines, literature, and exhibits).
  • Support hearings and trial. Assist in preparing our own experts, developing challenges to opposing experts, and providing end-to-end trial support.

Ideal Background:

  • Active RN license with 5+ years of clinical experience in a healthcare setting ( BSN preferred)
  • Legal Nurse Consulting certification preferred.
  • Prior experience as an LNC, nurse analyst, nurse paralegal, or risk manager preferred.
  • EMR proficiency and strong comfort navigating electronic medical records.
  • Exceptional writing skills, including clear business writing and polished grammar.
  • Meticulous organization, reliable follow-through, and a collaborative, team-first mindset.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, juggle deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Role Context:

  • This is a non-clinical nursing position . You’ll trade hands-on patient care and the unpredictability of clinical shifts for a regular schedule in a professional services environment.
  • Legal experience is not required; however, research and writing skills must be excellent. Candidates should be comfortable in Outlook and Word and willing to learn the firm’s designated software tools.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive compensation with bonus eligibility tied to firm and individual performance.
  • Full benefits package, including health, dental, firm-paid life coverage and 401(k)
  • Paid time off (vacation, sick time, and paid holidays)
  • A collaborative, intellectually stimulating work environment
  • Flexible, newly renovated office space in the heart of Butchertown
  • On-site perks: free parking, stocked kitchen area, and modern workspace.
  • Predictable schedule (business hours, Monday–Friday) with limited after-hours demands.

Why You’ll Love This Job:

At Oldham Law, you won’t just push paper, you’ll own the medical work. As our nurse analyst, you’ll dive into complex, high-stakes cases from day one, collaborate directly with senior attorneys, and translate clinical records into clear strategy. You’ll build genuine relationships with clients and experts while working on a tight-knit team that values smart strategy, sharp advocacy, and a sense of humor.
