The New York State Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) seeks a detail-oriented and highly organized Legal Secretary to provide comprehensive legal and administrative support to the General Counsel’s Office. This position involves preparing legal documents, managing case files, and assisting attorneys with litigation and compliance matters in a fast-paced environment.
- Prepare correspondence and case materials for lawsuits in state and federal court.
- Assist in preparing case filings by completing required documentation and activities.
- Draft legal documents for attorney review.
- Prepare subpoenas and arrange for service.
- Coordinate filing of legal memoranda and other court papers.
- Conduct research into complex legal matters; analyze materials and present findings.
- Prepare litigation holds and assist with e-discovery searches and management.
- Maintain case files, calendars, and monitor dockets, deadlines, and decisions.
- Assist General Counsel, Deputy Counsels, and Associate Counsels with confidential legal matters.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by senior legal staff.
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology and procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information professionally.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience supporting attorneys in litigation or government legal operations.
- Familiarity with e-discovery tools and case management systems.
