PURPOSE OF POSITION: Performs highly confidential and professional administrative services for the County Attorney and staff, receives visitors in person, answers telephone calls, and performs routine work involving the preparation and processing of legal documents for the prosecution of misdemeanor cases
Essential Functions
- Utilizes a variety of computer programs in the preparation of departmental documents and records and operates standard office equipment including computer, word processor, photocopy machine, fax machine, and calculator
- Prepares, maintains, and distributes legal documents such as motions, court filings, subpoenas, orders, and probation revocations, specifically related to criminal misdemeanors cases
- Prepares, maintains and distributes legal documents such as petitions, motions, and orders related to mental health commitments
- Transcribes and types reports, records, forms, correspondence, and legal documents
- Creates, maintains, and updates a complex file system of records and reports and ensures accuracy of the same
- Files correspondence, legal records, and other departmental documents according to established procedures
- Establishes and maintains a schedule of appointments and court dates for attorneys and schedules meetings
- Answers telephone and greets visitors to department, responds to inquiries according to established procedures, or refers callers/visitors to appropriate sources for assistance
- Compiles and types financial data regarding bad check account and restitution account§ Receives and verifies deposits of bad check account and restitution account§ Balances receipts with cash and maintains daily balance book with bad check account and restitution account, posts accounting records to ledger § Maintains death records, including the filing of death certificates.
- Performs other duties as directed or as the situation dictates including assisting with the duties of other clerical personnel in their absence
Essential Knowledge, Experience, and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of routine office procedures, standard clerical techniques, and office equipment
- Thorough knowledge of the English language and proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation
- Thorough knowledge of the court system regarding processing various legal documents according to established procedures
- Thorough knowledge of legal terminology as it relates to typing and processing legal documents
- Ability to maintain files according to an established numerical or alphabetical system.
- Ability to perform basic input and retrieval functions by utilizing a word processor or personal computer
- Ability to type accurately on a typewriter, word processor, personal computer, and/or transcription machine
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of all communications, documents, and correspondence in the County Attorney’s Office
- Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, supervisors, fellow employees, and government officials and agencies
Essential Education, Certifications, and Licenses
- High school education or equivalent
Essential Physical Demands and Typical Working Conditions
- Work is generally performed indoors in an office setting
- Normal office hazards are encountered, i.e., prolonged sitting and stooping
- Work duties occasionally require light lifting of boxes or files
Essential Attendance and Availability Requirements
- Must maintain an acceptable level of attendance, punctuality, and availability as determined by the County; must work such regularly scheduled hours as are determined by the County; must work any required overtime, weekends, and holidays
- Must work at the assigned work site
- Must travel as required

Pay: $20.00 - $21.50 per hour
