The St. Francois County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Legal Secretary to join our team. This role primarily serves as the office’s receptionist, greeting visitors, answering incoming calls, and providing front-desk support while also performing a variety of essential legal and administrative duties.

ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serving as the primary receptionist by greeting visitors, answering phones, and responding to general inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Maintaining well-organized physical and digital case files.
  • Preparing discovery, assisting attorneys with trial preparation, and supporting general case management needs.
  • Entering court information accurately and efficiently into the case management system.
  • E-filing motions, responses, correspondence, and other court-related documents on behalf of the Prosecuting Attorney.
  • Interacting daily with other courthouse departments, court personnel, and law enforcement agencies.
  • Providing coverage and support for peers as needed.
  • Performing general clerical duties, including scanning, copying, and filing.

Qualifications

  • Punctual and reliable attendance, as shown through prior employment or educational experience.
  • Strong secretarial skills with excellent spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Windows applications, and internet navigation.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, maintain attention to detail, and manage multiple tasks with strong organizational skills.
  • A professional and courteous demeanor both in person and on the phone.
  • Self-motivation with the ability to work independently and follow established procedures.
  • A minimum of a high school diploma and a professional résumé.
  • Prior legal experience is preferred but not required.

  • Position requires accuracy, focus, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment.

Pay: $16.06 - $18.47 per hour
