Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
Requires a JD from an accredited law school and good standing with the South Carolina bar and 3 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strongly prefer completion of Child Law Concentration in conjunction with law degree and experience in research of policy issues and preparation of reports.
  • Prefer at least two years of experience staffing a legislative committee and organizing hearings or public events.
  • Knowledge of children’s policy issues and functions of state government.
  • Experience in desktop publishing and/or website maintenance and social media would be a plus.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to work effectively with members of the Joint Committee and other elected and appointed officials.
  • Ability to analyze issues and project impact of policy.
  • Excellent computer skills and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Highly organized and attentive to detail.

Tracks children related bills and coordinates staff coverage of legislative meetings and hearings. Ensures that meeting summaries are prepared and entered into database. Manages the compendium of relevant legislation.

Supervise and coordinate law clerks and student interns, including providing supervision to meet course requirements, overseeing work assignments, and monitoring attendance. Develop and manage schedules to ensure appropriate coverage of Committee activities and legislative hearings. Provide constructive feedback to support professional growth. Collaborate with USC programs to support student internship placements, participate in the recruitment and interview process for law clerks and interns, and delegate tasks consistent with Committee needs. Ensure accurate tracking of time by monitoring daily work logs and approving time entered into the PeopleSoft system.
