Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits provided to regular Board of Regents or Civil Service employees. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs a variety of librarian duties at Center for Korean Studies (CKS) Library
  • Provides library and archival research services, including answering questions and ushering researchers when they visit the library
  • Participates in the overall planning, implementation, and delivery of library services
  • Arranges special collections available and accessible to researchers during their visit
  • Creates and updates finding aids, inventories, web contents, and other access points for special collections
  • Creates and manages digital surrogates and records for original materials
  • Collaborates in special projects such as grant proposal preparation, problem-solving process, and CKS events
  • Participates in staff meetings, engages in teamwork, and completes training as necessary/required
  • Keep the Director and CKS Staff updated on activities weekly.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Library or Information Science, Archival Studies, Arts & Sciences, or a related field
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  • Fluent in Korean, with the ability to read and write

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience and knowledge working in a higher education setting.
  • One year of experience working in a library
  • Knowledge of best practices for archival arrangement, processing, preservation, and accessibility.
