About Our Branch

The Athmar Park Library serves a highly diverse community that speaks Spanish and Vietnamese, in addition to English in southwest Denver. As a full-service library, we are dedicated to upholding our core values through our services and interactions. Our close-knit team supports and encourages one another, fostering a warm and inclusive environment for library visitors of all ages and backgrounds. We collaborate with community partners to connect people with valuable resources and are conveniently located within walking distance of several schools. As a result, our library is a popular destination for young patrons after school and during the summer.

About Our Position

DPL is hiring a Librarian for the Athmar Park Library. In this position, you will serve the community through programming, reference, technology assistance, readers’ advisory, and front line customer service. You will foster curiosity through the exploration of recreational and educational resources for all audiences in multiple formats. You can expect to challenge inequity by creating welcoming spaces that foster belonging for all, and by providing technology resources and assistance. Additionally, as a DPL employee you will strengthen connections among staff and community by gathering together to discover creative ways to serve the community. You’ll be expected to honor the public trust by providing the highest level of service and equitable access to reliable information resources on a variety of topics, including the full scope of library services. This position does not have any direct reports though it may occasionally entail being the person in charge or guiding other staff in the absence of management.

What You Would Bring

Our ideal candidate has:

  • Knowledge of the core values of librarianship, including: intellectual freedom, privacy, democracy, diversity, sustainability, serving the public good, access to information for all, and library advocacy.

  • Ability to provide information to a vastly diverse audience, leading with cultural humility.

  • Ability to create and implement innovative services that sparks curiosity.

  • Experience with reference services, programming, trauma informed practices, and customer service.

  • A demonstrated commitment to developing and maintaining a welcoming environment for young people, including babies, toddlers, preschoolers, grade schoolers, and teens.

  • Extensive knowledge of collection maintenance practices and a willingness to regularly audit and update branch or department’s collection for all audiences as well as create captivating displays.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited program or currently enrolled in an American Library Association accredited program for a Master's Degree in Library Science and must obtain a degree within 6 months of hire date.

  • One (1) year of experience solving problems and providing customer service to business or public clients.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Spanish and Vietnamese language

Work Environment & Location

The Denver Public Library's branches are the arms to the community—each a unique reflection of the dynamic, diverse communities we serve. At DPL, we pride ourselves on showing up and providing support whenever there is a need. While you may be hired for a specific location, please know that we are hiring with the expectation that at any time, you may be required to work at any one of our branches based on operational needs. This allows our staff to experience the full breadth of Denver's communities and ensures we consistently deliver the highest level of service across our branches.

DPL employees may be redeployed to work in other locations or capacities to support core functions of the library system during branch closures or other emergencies.

You can expect to work the hours the branch is open including evenings, weekends, etc.

Redeployment during Citywide Emergencies
