Position Available: Catalog Librarian

Location: Administrative Offices – Milford, Ohio

Status: Full-time, Non-exempt

If so, we want you to be part of our Collection Services team as a Catalog Librarian! Your Role: As a key member of our Collection Services team, you will collaborate closely with the Collection Services Manager and a team of dedicated library professionals to ensure the accurate cataloging and processing of materials across all formats, playing an essential part in keeping the library collection organized and accessible. This role emphasizes teamwork and cooperation, as you'll work alongside colleagues to refine processes and ensure smooth cataloging operations across the department.

Examples of What You'll Do:

  • Cataloging materials across a variety of formats using national and local standards.
  • Creating original catalog records, particularly for special collections like genealogy and programming.
  • Collaborating on the development and implementation of cataloging procedures and standards.
  • Assisting in authority control and maintaining an up-to-date bibliographic database.
  • Mentoring and providing guidance to staff on cataloging processes and best practices.
  • Supporting the ongoing maintenance of bibliographic records, including for electronic resources.
  • Assumes system-wide responsibility and leadership roles for special projects as needed.

Skills You'll Use:

  • Collaboration: Work as part of a dedicated team to improve cataloging procedures and ensure the seamless processing of library materials.
  • Execution and Accuracy: Assist in developing and implementing cataloging and authority control processes, ensuring that the entire library system benefits from streamlined and accurate records.
  • Support: Be a resource for your colleagues by answering cataloging-related questions and mentoring staff to help them succeed.
  • Growth: Engage in ongoing professional development and share your knowledge with the team, staying ahead of trends in cataloging, automation, and library technology.

Qualifications:

  • A college degree and completion of an M.L.S. degree from an A.L.A. accredited program.
  • Professional experience in cataloging and library automation is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of current cataloging practices, including Library of Congress Subject Headings and Dewey Decimal Classification System.
  • Experience in creating original catalog records and maintaining database accuracy.
  • Strong team player with excellent organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across departments.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a customer-centric approach and the ability to explain complex concepts to others.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, databases, and troubleshooting technology.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and processes that improve cataloging workflows.
  • Ability to carry materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
