ABOUT THIS POSITION


Help provide relief and support to the community during the summer heat while engaging with library users in a meaningful and impactful way! We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Part-Time Librarian I staff members to join our team for the summer. This position focuses on offering extended library services to provide a cooling center, ensuring that all community members have access to vital resources in a comfortable environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service: Deliver library information services in person, via phone, email, and online resources, helping users with their library needs and questions.
  • Supervision: Serve as Person-In-Charge (PIC) during the work shift, including oversight of facilities, staffing, and security issues; reporting to designated chain of command as needed.
  • Collection Maintenance: Manage and maintain the quality of the library's reference, digital, and circulating collections at the branch or central library.
  • Reference and Research: Perform reference searches, utilizing standard reference materials and online sources, including computerized databases, to help library users find the information they need.
  • Program and Outreach Development: Participate in developing and implementing library programs, including outreach initiatives based on community needs and library goals.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Keep accurate work records and produce regular written reports on library activities.
  • Library Policy Application: Explain, interpret, and enforce library policies, objectives, and procedures to staff and patrons.
  • Technology Support: Assist library users with electronic resources, including eBooks, eAudio, streaming video, assistance with using these formats on mobile devices. Assist library users with document services, including printing from library computers and mobile devices, as well as photocopying, faxing, and scanning.

These part-time/30 hour a week positions are a fantastic opportunity to serve the public, expand your library experience, and help provide vital relief and services to the community during the summer months.

The heat relief program runs from April 1st through September 30th at the Cholla library. Work hours are between 9:00 a.m. to 9:15 p.m., five days a week, including Saturdays, Sundays, and the following holidays: Memorial Day (May 25), Juneteenth (June 19), Independence Day (July 4), and Labor Day (September 7).

SALARY


Pay Range: $24.93 to $44.77 per hour.

Hiring Range: $24.93 to $33.41 per hour.

  • Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.

Internal Only: Please understand that this is pay grade 053. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance.

  • Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.
  • Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.
  • Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
  • When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.

BENEFITS


Part-time employees are eligible for earned paid sick time, city training, and free or discounted bus and light rail fares.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Conferred Master's degree in library science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution.
  • OR Conferred Master's degree in an educational field such as Education, Humanities, or Social Sciences.
  • OR Conferred Master's degree in Business, Sciences, or Law.
  • Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment must be fingerprinted and will have their fingerprints used to check the Criminal History Records of the State of Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Any records returned will be reviewed to determine the candidate's suitability for the job.

Working Conditions Require:

  • Availability for the full duration of the summer position, April 1 through September 30, with no more than 5 business days requested for vacation.
  • Working irregular hours, weekends, and holidays spanning approximately 22 weeks.
  • Work hours are between 9:00 a.m. and 9:15 p.m., five days a week, including Saturdays, Sundays, and the following holidays: Memorial Day (May 25), Juneteenth (June 19), Independence Day (July 4), and Labor Day (September 7).
  • Bending, stooping, and kneeling repeatedly or continually over the course of an entire shift.
  • Remaining in a standing position for extended periods of time, from one continuous hour up to four total hours at a time per day, while performing a variety of tasks.
  • Performing repetitive hand, arm, and body movements, including lifting books continuously for up to an hour at a time and up to the duration of a shift.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

Experience in/with:

  • Customer service experience that includes providing information, education, or solutions.
  • Interacting with a diverse range of patrons and creating a positive, welcoming environment.
  • Spanish proficiency is desired, though not required.

    • Working in a fast-paced, community-focused environment.
