Job Duties:
The City of Virginia Beach Public Library's is seeking a full time Librarian II -Branch Programming Coordinator to join our fantastic team of professionals. The successful candidate should fully embrace the library’s commitment to “inspire learning, ignite imagination, create possibilities, and encourage understanding” through innovative programming and strong community engagement.
Librarian II - Branch Programming Coordinator duties include but not limited to:
Supervising librarians and/or paraprofessional staff, documenting performance and conducting annual employee evaluations to provide feedback, identify training needs and set goals for staff.
Developing and fostering a process improvement environment by encouraging ideas, identifying trends, evaluating processes, and data.
Determining the scope and requirements of a project, coordinating and scheduling activities, controlling resources, and identifying and controlling risk for quality project completion.
Tracking and collecting data to measure services, program and/or collections.
Organizing and maintaining library records per an approved record retention schedule for easy access to all relevant data.
Organizing and delegating library tours including information literacy classes, story times, and tours for school groups, community organizations and the public.
Creating and/or conducting special programs to promote the library’s collection and services.
Generating age-appropriate library programs that are of interest to the community, planned collaboratively, aligned with strategic programming priorities, and developed using sound instructional design principles.
Participating in departmental strategic teams to develop library system policies and procedures as needed.
Helping to oversee the library branch and staff as needed.
Managing daily service point schedules, supervising opening and closing procedures, including cash reconciliation and securing the building as needed.
Performing other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: Requires a Master of Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited college or university, plus two (2) years of professional librarian experience, to reflect experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities (combination of supervisory and professional librarian experience). SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Must be able to work rotating shifts (days/evenings) including weekends and holidays and be available to work overtime when required to meet operational needs. Positions within this class have been designated as Alpha I positions requiring employees to work during inclement weather, regardless of the Citys operational status.

Preferences:
Two (2) years of professional/administrative library work experience
Experience documenting performance and conducting annual employee evaluations.
Experience developing and delivering competency-based trainings to meet the needs of library staff.
Experience with planning and evaluating library services.
Experience Supervising librarians and/or paraprofessional staff (minimum 2 years)
Experience in reference interviewing and search technique
1 year working experience with teams/groups
Experience with the use of online library catalog, library data bases and business productivity applications
Evidence of planning, implementing, and evaluating programs for customers of all ages and abilities
Evidence of experience in direct customer service
Master of Library and Information Science Degree(MLIS)
Experience developing and delivering competency-based trainings to meet the needs of library staff.
Special Instructions:
VRS Contribution: All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
