Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Librarian I/II, Nursing and Health Sciences Librarian, University Library System at its Detroit campus location. Position Purpose:

The Wayne State University Libraries support the education, research, and service missions of the University and its communities through comprehensive, high-quality resources, services, and programs. Our collections include:

  • 3+ million volumes
  • 56,000+ journal titles
  • 800,000+ e-books

The Nursing Librarian serves as the primary liaison between the University Library System and the College of Nursing, providing expert support for teaching, research, and clinical information needs. While part of the central campus libraries, this role will also collaborate with colleagues from the Shiffman Medical Library in developing services and an integrated approach to providing library services to all parts of Wayne State’s health sciences programs. The position is an Employment Security Status eligible position, with starting rank dependent on qualifications. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the US without sponsorship.

Essential Functions:

Serve as subject liaison to the College of Nursing, supporting faculty, researchers, and students and developing working relationships across the College.

Provide in-depth reference and research consultation in nursing and other health science disciplines.

Deliver curriculum-integrated instruction to enhance health literacy, information literacy, citation management, and evidence-based practice.

Collaborate with library system staff to maintain strong collections in nursing, health and biomedical sciences.

Participate in professional development and relevant committees within the WSU Library System and on campus.

Additional Responsibilities:

Staff chat reference a minimum of 3-4 hours weekly.

Create and edit a selection of LibGuides and work with GSAs providing an annual review and updates.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (ALA-accredited) or equivalent.

Demonstrated ability to teach, collaborate, and communicate effectively.

Academic background in health science or public health. Demonstrated experience providing library or information services in the health sciences. Demonstrated experience with evidence synthesis and systematic reviews. Demonstrated knowledge of health informatics and scholarly publishing. Evidence of innovation in delivering library services.
