In the role of Library Administrator, you will:
Plans, assigns, directs, and evaluates the work of regional or divisional staff, providing both direct and indirect library services and comprehensive public programs across a range of service platforms, including community libraries, bookmobiles, outreach services, online, and specialized resource centers servicing adults, youth, and diverse groups.
Requirements to Qualify:
Option 1: One year of experience at the level of Los Angeles County class Assistant Library Administrator, assisting in the administration of library services across a region.
Option 2: One year of experience at the level of Los Angeles County class Assistant Library Administrator, coordinating a department-wide service program or technical services function.
Option 3: Two years of experience at the level of Los Angeles County class Librarian V, managing a Group I Level public library.
Option 4: Two years of experience at the level of Los Angeles County class Librarian V, directing and coordinating the department-wide specialized reference services.
License: A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
Physical Class II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

A region is an administrative grouping of multiple community libraries within a defined geographic area.
For a full description of LA County's Librarian V classification, refer to class specification 8339.
A Group I Level is defined as a very large public library staffed with at least 10 full-time professional librarians and additional support personnel.
A public library, is a publicly funded and officially recognized institution, established by a government entity or accredited educational institution that provides free and equitable access to informational, educational, cultural, and recreational resources and services for all members of the public within a designated geographical area. Public libraries operate with formal authorization and public accountability, and this definition excludes informal, private, or volunteer-only libraries.
Veteran's Credit: If you are a veteran, you may be eligible for Veteran’s Credit, which can add an additional 10 points to a passing score. To apply, please submit a legible copy of your DD214. Our Assessment Process: This assessment will consist of a structured oral interview weighed 100%. The oral interview will assess Leadership and Staff Development, Integrity and Professional Accountability, Strategic Planning and Operational Management, Community Engagement, and Oral Communication.
Applicants must receive a passing score of 70% or higher on the assessment to be added to the list.
Eligibility and Vacancy Information: Applicants who passed the assessment are placed on a list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months. Applications will be processed as they are received and added to the list accordingly. We will use this list to fill vacancies in LA County Library as they occur.
