Compensation:

  • Hourly Pay: $16.00 – 19.25

Position Description:

This position supports the State Library of Kansas by delivering high-quality customer service, technical library operations and collection maintenance. Serving as the first point of contact, the role assists legislators, state employees, and the public by responding to inquiries and guiding users in accessing physical and digital library resources through in-person, phone, and email communication. The position also enhances collection discoverability through original cataloging and metadata management using established standards such as MARC, Dewey, and Dublin Core, while maintaining bibliographic integrity and supporting the integrated library system (ILS) and online catalog. Additionally, the role performs circulation duties and ensures the upkeep of the physical collection through shelving, inventory, repair, and distribution of Kansas government documents to depository libraries, while adhering to agency policies and maintaining patron privacy.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidates must have:

  • Three years of experience in library work, the equivalent in relevant education, or a combination of each.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in collections and access services or cataloging within a library environment.

and/or

  • Previous experience working in patron engagement or circulation within a library environment.

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask, pivot effectively between skills and remain organized to meet work expectations.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of standard office software, especially Microsoft Office applications.
  • Working knowledge of integrated library systems. (preferred)
  • Clear understanding of library classification systems. (preferred)
  • Ability to communicate and engage with patrons of varying backgrounds and educational levels.
  • Communicate effectively orally, in-person and telephone, and written.
  • Ability to solve problems and apply critical thinking skills needed to analyze issues and questions.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment within a limited sphere.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate: A valid Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate is a condition of employment for all employees of the State of Kansas.
