Library Assistant

Job Overview

The Library Assistant supports daily operations of the Benny Gambaiani Public Library by providing friendly customer service, assisting with circulation tasks, and helping patrons with basic technology needs. This role helps maintain an organized, welcoming environment, supports library programs and displays, and ensures patrons of all ages have a positive experience. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail‑oriented, and comfortable working in a small, community‑focused library setting.
Duties

• Assist library visitors with locating books, digital resources, and other materials using cataloging systems and databases
• Perform data entry to update records, manage inventory, and maintain accurate catalog information
• Support the organization of library materials through filing and shelving according to classification standards
• Provide excellent customer service by answering questions, guiding research efforts, and offering assistance with library services
• Use integrated library system software to check out materials, process returns, and manage overdue notices
• Conduct data collection on usage patterns to help improve library services and resource allocation
• Troubleshoot basic computer or software issues related to library systems to ensure continuous access for users

Skills

• Proficiency with databases, integrated library systems, and computer software relevant to library operations
• Strong writing skills for documenting procedures, creating reports, and communicating effectively with patrons
• Knowledge of cataloging standards and filing techniques to organize materials efficiently
• Excellent communication skills to assist diverse patrons with their needs confidently and clearly
• Exceptional organizational skills for managing multiple tasks such as data entry, filing, and inventory control
• Ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues related to library software or hardware for uninterrupted service
