EDUCATION :
High School Diploma or Equivalent
One year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Two years of college coursework from an accredited college or university, preferred


CERTIFICATION :

Paraprofessional Certification as required by the State Board and the District



High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.

Thursday 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.


PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY :
Assists librarians by providing clerical and technical support in the daily operation of the joint use library. Under the guidance of a librarian, plans and facilitates public programming for various ages.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists students, faculty, and the public with locating library materials for class assignments, research and independent reading.
2. Assists library patrons with technology-related questions, including digital device troubleshooting, in order to facilitate access to digital resources.
3. Under the guidance of a librarian, plans and facilitates public programming for various ages.
4. Performs the necessary functions for the San Antonio Public Library InterLibrary (ILL) process including processing, holds, pulling the router and managing holds.
5. Assists with the supervision of students.
6. Operates, maintains and trouble shoots automated library system by adding, and editing patron records and materials; by circulating materials; by performing back up and other routine maintenance tasks.
7. Maintains an accurate account of overdue, lost and damaged materials by generating and distributing lists and notices; by collecting fines and by compiling statistics and reports.
8. Shelves returned materials.
9. Maintains confidentiality of information.
10. Reports to work on time every day.
11. Performs additional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Above average knowledge and ability to use and/or learn to use Internet Software, Library Automation and Research Databases
  • Average skills are required in the use of Database, Spreadsheet, Word Processing and Instructional Software
  • Above average ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The environmental characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Evening and weekend work is required.
