EXTRA HELP INTERNDEFINITION An Intern is a temporary, entry-level position designed to provide students or recent graduates with practical, hands-on experience in a professional setting. Interns assist with day-to-day tasks, projects, and operations while learning about local government setting, work culture, and professional standards.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is an Extra Help (temporary) classification that is limited to no more than 900 hours per year. Incumbents are paid only for hours worked, are only entitled to legally mandated benefits, and do not have status. This classification is used for temporary appointment(s) only, to provide job training for Junior or Senior high school, regularly enrolled students, persons who have recently graduated from an accredited undergraduate or graduate program and are working to complete related licensure or certification requirements, persons who are participating in a supervised training program to meet licensure requirements of the State of California. Duties will vary based on the needs of the department and its programs.SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Interns work under close supervision of a designated supervisor, department manager, or staff. They receive specific instructions on tasks and are guided through work assignments to support learning and development.
