This is a non-exempt (hourly) position. Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level, and internal equity. Internal equity considerations include an assessment of the applicant’s salary history and qualifications in comparison to the market rate and requirements for the job.

Schedule: Full Time 40 hours per week, Benefit Eligible
M- F 8:00am – 5:00pm
Works one evening per week 11:00a 0 8:00pm
Rotating weekends

The Library Associate – Children’s Services position supports the branch team in creating a welcoming and engaging environment for customers of all ages. Responsibilities include leading programs such as Storytimes, outreach events, art programs, book clubs, and other child-focused activities. This role also represents the library in the community, conducts outreach to schools, daycares, other communities and partners, and collaborates with systemwide teams and Children’s Services staff.
Strong programming, outreach, and partnership-building experience are highly desirable. The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player and an effective individual contributor. Independent judgment and the ability to work with limited supervision are essential.
Additional duties include staffing busy service desks for all ages, providing technology and research assistance, and offering readers’ advisory. A rotating schedule for evenings and weekends is required. Strong technology and computer skills are required.

Position Summary
This position primarily focuses on working with children ages 0-10 years, providing support to school-age children and their parents, and delivering services in a fast-paced environment on the children’s floor. Flexibility, adaptability, and time management skills are essential, as the role involves frequent shifts between processing materials, assisting multiple service points, and engaging with customers of all ages.

Essential Functions
Prepare program reports
Perform circulation activities
Create and deliver programs to age-appropriate audiences
Provide research assistance to customers
Utilize integrated library systems software
Provide service desk coverage
Assist customers at several service points
Train and assist customers on various library policies, procedures, and processes
Maintain library’s collection of materials including repairs, shelving, and marketing
Assist with volunteer management
Promote and markets library’s programs, collaborating with Marketing and Communication to generate flyers and materials pertaining to programs

Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum of one year of library, retail, computer, or customer service experience.

Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent

Education/Experience
Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted? Yes

Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of one ear working with children
Bi-Lingual, Spanish speaking

Computer Skills
Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite

Work Environment
Works in an office setting with moderate noise
