The role supports a wide variety of library operations and initiatives, contributing to a vibrant and welcoming environment. This position may also provide guidance and direction to other staff members as assigned. In a branch setting, this position may serve as the Person-in-Charge (PIC). Supervision and support are provided by the Children’s Services Supervisor.NOTE: The upper pay range reflects possible wage rates for internal County transfers and promotions, which are calculated per County policy. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Under direction, develop and present innovative age-appropriate programs for children and outreach activities as assignedMaintain in-depth knowledge of the children's collection and current literatureParticipate in implementation of system-wide programs, events and outreach for childrenAssist patrons of all ages with reference questions or readers' advisory requestsAssist patrons in using computerized and manual information sources and/or direct patrons to other appropriate sourcesPerform basic bibliographic searches related to inter-library loan requests and reservesExplain FCPL policies and procedures to patrons and train patrons on the use of library resourcesAssist with the maintenance of the branch collection in an assigned areaWorking with the Supervisor, assist in planning and implementing marketing activities that communicate the mission and goals of the library and the value of library products and services to the public, organizations, businesses and other community entitiesActively seek out and engage in opportunities to promote the library in the communityEstablish and maintain working relationships and partnerships with community businesses, organizations, groups and schools, including outreach and programmingPrepare displays and develop programs to promote reading and other library servicesRecommend materials for acquisition and/or withdrawalParticipate in department, branch and system-wide work teamsAttend workshops, meetings and learning opportunitiesMay perform duties as a Notary Public, to include witnessing the signing of documents and verifying their authenticity.May perform duties as a Passport Acceptance Agent, to include executing passport applicationsPerform other related duties as requiredTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to provide own transportation to meetings/workshops and to various branch Libraries as neededAvailable for varied workdays and hours within the FCPL operating scheduleThe Library Associate Training Institute (LATI) as well as continuing education requirements help ensure that Maryland library customers receive the same level of quality customer service at any library in the state. Public library associates must acquire six (6) semester hours or 90 contact hours every five (5) years to remain in the retirement system and/or stay employed in Maryland public libraries.
