Library at Home Supervisor

At the Allen County Public Library, we believe the library should meet people where they are-sometimes quite literally.

We're looking for a Library at Home Supervisor to lead and grow a service that brings books, resources, and meaningful connection directly to community members who can't visit us in person. This role is part leader, part relationship-builder, and part hands-on librarian-perfect for someone who is passionate about access, outreach, and making a tangible difference in people's lives.

What You'll Do

As the Library at Home Supervisor, you'll guide a dedicated team while also staying closely connected to the people we serve.

  • Lead and support Library at Home staff, including scheduling, coaching, and professional development
  • Coordinate and deliver services to homebound patrons and residential facilities across Allen County
  • Build strong partnerships with senior living communities, care facilities, and community organizations
  • Shape and continuously improve Library at Home services, collections, and procedures
  • Help ensure consistent, high-quality service by stepping in to provide direct service when needed
  • Collaborate across departments on outreach initiatives, training, and programming
  • Oversee equipment, vehicles, and tools that support mobile library services
  • Track data, develop reports, and contribute to strategic planning
  • Stay current on trends and best practices in outreach, accessibility, and services for older adults and individuals with disabilities

What Makes This Role Unique

This isn't a desk-only leadership role. You'll be out in the community, building relationships, delivering services, and ensuring that the library remains a vital lifeline for people who rely on us most.

If you're someone who values both big-picture thinking and meaningful one-on-one interactions, you'll thrive here.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree and at least four (4) years of related professional experience (or equivalent combination)
  • Experience in outreach, public service, or community engagement
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Comfort working with diverse populations, including seniors and individuals with disabilities
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to adapt, problem-solve, and learn new technologies
  • A valid driver's license

Continued employment in this position requires obtaining Indiana Public Librarian Certification at the LC5 level within three (3) years of hire. The LC5 certification requires completion of nine (9) college credit hours in Library Science coursework.

Work Environment

This role blends office work with regular travel throughout Allen County, including visits to homes, residential communities, and healthcare facilities. The position also involves lifting and transporting library materials.
