Purpose of Job
The purpose of this classification is to perform a variety of tasks related to library patron services.
Essential Functions
The Library Branch Assistant 2 is responsible for the following essential functions:

Processes and shelves new periodicals while maintaining order of periodical rack

Assists patrons in using the public access catalog and in locating information and/or materials

Assists patrons with the use of public computers, including reservation system, internet access, software applications and troubleshooting

Collects fines and/or other charges

Prepares daily deposits for Library Business Administrator

Answers phone calls and emails from public
-
Prepares books and materials for shelving; including unloading, discharging and sorting tasks
-
Read shelves to ensure books are correct and adjusts any errors

Works public service desk and enters new users into database
-
Executes daily opening/closing of facility

Creates displays, interior signs and handouts

Maintains door count
-
Performs minor repairs on books or other circulating material

Works to maintain cleanliness of facility

Types monthly reports, as necessary
Additional Job Functions
-
Respond to and report immediately if called upon by local, regional or central office supervisors, as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Mayor’s Office

Ensure regular, punctual attendance during scheduled work hours

Perform other duties as required
Minimum Training & Qualifications
-
High School diploma or GED required: Associates degree preferred
-
Minimum of one years related experience in a library environment, office or related field
-
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered for employment into the position
