KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Library Setup & Resource Management
- Lead the planning, procurement, and establishment of library corners in assigned project schools, ensuring appropriate selection of age-appropriate, culturally relevant, and curriculum-aligned reading materials.
- Develop standardized guidelines and protocols for library corner setup, organization, cataloguing, and day-to-day management.
- Support schools in developing sustainable library management systems, including lending registers, inventory tracking, and book care practices.
- Conduct periodic audits of library corners to assess condition of materials, usage rates, and management quality, providing recommendations for improvement.
- Coordinate with the procurement team to ensure timely and cost-effective sourcing of books, shelves, and reading materials.
Training Design & Delivery
- Design and develop comprehensive training programmes for teachers, school librarians, and school management committee (SMC) members on library management, reading promotion, and literacy facilitation.
- Facilitate training workshops and orientation sessions on how to effectively use library resources to support classroom reading instruction.
- Develop training manuals, resource guides, and toolkits for school staff on library corner management and reading promotion activities.
- Train teachers in incorporating read-aloud sessions, storytelling, guided reading, and independent reading into their daily classroom practice.
- Build capacity of field mentors and coordinators to support and monitor library corner activities in schools.
Reading Promotion & Literacy Culture
- Design and implement a school reading promotion strategy, including reading clubs, story sessions, book fairs, reading challenges, and parent literacy evenings.
- Work with school leadership to integrate library time into the weekly school schedule as a structured, regular activity.
- Support teachers in conducting regular read-aloud and shared reading sessions with students across grades.
- Promote bilingual reading (Urdu and Sindhi) to strengthen children's language and literacy skills.
- Engage parents and community members in reading promotion activities to extend literacy support beyond the school environment.
Monitoring, Documentation & Reporting
- Develop and implement monitoring tools to track library corner utilization, student reading frequency, and teacher engagement with library resources.
- Conduct regular school visits to observe library activity implementation and provide on-site support and coaching to school staff.
- Compile and analyse library usage data, training records, and monitoring findings for inclusion in project reports.
- Document best practices, case studies, and success stories from library corner implementation for knowledge sharing and donor reporting.
- Prepare regular progress reports for the Training & Academics Manager and Project Manager.
Qualification & Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Library Sciences, Education, Literacy, or a related field.
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in library management, reading promotion, or literacy programme implementation in a school or development context.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering training programmes for school staff.
- Knowledge of early grade reading, children's literature, and reading promotion methodologies.
- Strong organizational, communication, and facilitation skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and basic data management; familiarity with library cataloguing systems preferred.
- Fluency in Urdu and Sindhi; proficiency in English required.
- Willingness to undertake regular field travel to target schools
Pay: Rs40,000.00 - Rs50,000.00 per month
