Job Overview

We are seeking a dependable and service-oriented Library Courier to support daily library operations through the safe and timely transport of books, materials, and interoffice mail between multiple library branches and facilities.

This role is responsible for loading and unloading delivery vehicles, sorting and distributing library materials, and following established delivery routes and schedules. The Library Courier also transports supplies and equipment, ensuring all items are delivered accurately to designated locations. In addition, this position performs basic vehicle upkeep such as fueling, checking fluids, and reporting maintenance needs.

As a highly visible representative of the library system, the ideal candidate demonstrates professionalism, reliability, and strong customer service skills while working independently in a fast-paced environment. Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in delivery driving, courier services, or route-based transportation
• Experience handling and transporting materials, inventory, or packages
• Experience operating vans or similar vehicles safely and efficiently
• Ability to follow assigned routes and maintain delivery schedules
• Basic computer skills for communication and task coordination
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Good interpersonal and customer service skills

Experience Preferences

• Experience working in a library system or public sector environment
• Familiarity with sorting and distributing books or educational materials
• Experience handling time-sensitive or high-volume deliveries
• Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and safety checks

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach throughout the workday
• Ability to load and unload delivery vehicles
• Ability to work in varying environmental conditions including outdoor weather, warehouses, and garages

Education Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent

Education Preferences

• Additional training in logistics, transportation, or customer service-related fields
