Library Custodial Worker II
The Enoch Pratt Library has an opening for a Custodial Worker II for the Facilities Department. The Custodial Worker participates with other custodial workers in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings and surrounding grounds. Work involves no supervisory responsibilities. Custodial Workers operate on a rotating shift basis and call-back hours in emergencies. Work is primarily in building interiors where there are no hazardous conditions; however, custodial workers may occasionally be exposed to inclement weather conditions when working on surrounding grounds. Work requires moderate physical exertion.
The Custodial Worker II reports to a Custodial Worker Supervisor, and will work at multiple branches throughout the City of Baltimore. The hours are during the normal business day and could include evening and weekend hours.

Summary of Duties:
- Accounts for supplies and materials.
- Assists with setup and tear down of meeting spaces for programs.
- On the interior of buildings:
- Sweeps, mops, dusts, scrubs, waxes, polishes, buffs, and operates hand and power cleaning tools.
- Vacuums carpets; cleans woodwork, windows, walls, furniture, and restrooms.
- Moves furniture and equipment; collects and removes trash
- On the exterior of buildings:
- Cuts and trims grass and shrubs, sweeps sidewalks, and removes litter, snow, and ice.
- Assists staff in loading and unloading of library materials to and from delivery trucks.
- Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of branch parking lots used by customers, vendors, administrators, and special guests.
- Drive to various locations with necessary equipment.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of the eighth grade.
- Two years of experience in cleaning and custodial work.
- Valid Maryland driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Physical Requirements: Physical exertion such as standing; or recurring activities such as bending, crouching, reaching; moderate activities such as sweeping and polishing; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as trash bags and furniture.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with carpet cleaners and floor waxing desired.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability to lift and move materials as needed (within reasonable limit).
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Collaborate with customers, staff, and coworkers.
Position of Trust: Those under final consideration for appointment will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a criminal conviction check.
Drug & Alcohol Testing: Those under final consideration for appointment will be required to submit to drug and alcohol testing.
