LIBRARY DIRECTOR

The Library Director is a Management position working under the direction of an Executive Director of Community Services. This position is accountable for core Library Department activities, programs and services. As a Department Director, this position establishes the tone and direction of the Department. The Library Director will supervise the Collection Services and Patron Experience Library Managers, and coordinate closely with the Library Hall Manager. The Library Director provides staff support to the Library Advisory Commission and attends City Council and other executive management meetings when requested. Oversees the hiring, training and development of professional staff. Responds to inquiries from the public, citizens groups, City Council, and business organizations with information as requested. This position is accountable for short and long range planning, budget preparation and administration, maximum resource utilization and personnel administration.

Extensive knowledge of progressive principles and practices involved in directing library services and programs. Directs the acquisition of new library materials in all formats consistent with overall institutional strategic goals and library's collection development policy. Thorough knowledge of municipal government administration and risk management procedures as applied to the library. Skill in interpersonal relations as applied to supervision of personnel and in contacts with public officials and representatives of outside agencies and businesses. Ability to deal tactfully with the public and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Requires a master's degree in library and information studies from a program accredited by the American Library Association or a related master's degree, and a minimum of seven years of experience as a library professional, with progressively responsible management experience. The successful candidate will be required to pass a criminal background investigation and a pre-employment drug screen.

$8,333 to $16,667 per month depending upon qualifications. SALARY WILL GENERALLY START AT THE LOWER END OF THE SALARY RANGE.

40 hours per week. Some evenings and weekends may be reqiured.
