Plan, develop, and administer all library services involving an accountable inventory of all library materials, including adult, young adult, and juvenile. Responsible for selecting, acquiring, classifying, and cataloging all books entering the library inventory. Develop, prepare, and justify the annual library budgets for all books, periodicals, journals, equipment, and supplies necessary to provide an effective, efficient, and highly patronized library. Continually review and research professional publications to select books that meet the needs of the development and the welfare of library patrons. Implement library techniques, principles, and procedures that conform to the standards of the American Library Association and the Texas Library Association. Extend library services through inter-library loans from colleges and public libraries when required books are unavailable within the library inventory. Develop and plan all children's programs to include weekly story time and monthly Kid Time and Tween Scene events. Develop and plan outreach programs, which include reading at the daycares and speaking to different community organizations about the services available at the library. Assign and supervise the work of an assistant librarian and part-time library technicians. Develop, plan, and implement long and short-range goals and objectives involving all aspects of library operations. In association with the Library Board of Trustees, prepare and be able to justify the annual library budget submission to City Hall.
