Library Director

The Bourbon Public Library in Bourbon, Indiana has an opening for a full-time Library Director. The Bourbon Public Library is an Indiana Class C Public Library and is located in a small town in north central Indiana halfway between Plymouth and Warsaw, about 30 miles south of South Bend.

The Library Director is responsible to the Board of Trustees for the operation and management of library services and general administration. This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position.

Essential Job Duties:

• Manage and perform all operations including circulation, reference, reader’s advisory services, and cataloging.
• Manage departmental staff. Hire, train, schedule and enforce library policies, resolve difficulties and evaluate employee performance.
• Engage the local community through programming, outreach and special events
• Manage the materials collection with staff assistance.
• Manage facility maintenance and program improvements.
• Develop and manage annual budget with input from the board.
• Regularly communicate with the board and state agencies.
• Attend board meetings as scheduled and provide reports, written and verbal, to the board.

Minimum Requirements:

• Indiana State Library Library Certificate Level 4 (LC 4) or a Bachelor’s degree and ability to complete 15 hours of college level Library Science credit within three years of hire to receive the LC 4 certificate.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong organizational skills

Preferred Requirements:

• Library employment experience.
• Supervisory experience.
• A Master’s degree and/or additional Library Science courses.
• Experience working with and proficiency with computers, including Internet, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Windows and communication technologies.
• Knowledge and experience of current library technology.
• Knowledge of library materials and services appropriate for a variety of patrons.
• Experience developing special events and teen or children’s programming.

Salary and Benefits:

• Annual salary range of $48,000 - $53,000 based on experience and qualifications.
• 10 days vacation time after first year, increasing at increments thereafter
