Position Description & Details


Do you have a passion for knowledge and learning? Are you organized and detail-oriented? Do you like helping people and answering questions? Bismarck State College is seeking a Library Evening/Weekend Supervisor to help make BSC Library the place to be on campus for help with information needs, using library resources, technical assistance, and other learning needs. The ideal candidate will be able to work both independently and as part of a team. This role will play an important part in creating a welcoming, safe, and resourceful environment for students, faculty, and community members starting this Fall semester (August 2026).

Position Summary:
The Library Evening/Weekend Supervisor is responsible for assisting library users with resources, technology, and basic reference needs, while overseeing library operations during assigned shifts. This position ensures a positive patron experience, maintains smooth daily operations, and supports student employees and library initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
General Library Support
  • Open, monitor, and close library spaces as scheduled
  • Provide exceptional customer service by greeting patrons and assisting with general and directional inquiries
  • Support users with accessing library resources and offer basic technical assistance (computers, printing, scanning, etc.)
  • Communicate library policies and procedures clearly and professionally
  • Oversee library spaces to ensure appropriate use and a safe environment
  • Respond to phone calls and other communications
  • Maintain accurate library usage statistics
  • Handle money responsibly, including maintaining cash security
  • Assist with training and supervising student employees, as needed
  • Maintain effective communication with library staff
  • Support library security and report concerns to appropriate personnel
Miscellaneous Duties
  • Assist with processing library materials, including books and magazines
  • Support digitization efforts and document management projects
  • Recommend materials to enhance the library collection
  • Contribute ideas to improve services, processes, and user experience
  • Assist with special projects and other duties in support of team and institutional goals

Tentative Academic Year Schedule (schedule would differ during breaks):

  • Monday - Thursday 4pm - 8pm
  • Sunday 1pm - 4pm

Minimum Requirements


  • Excellent communication and public relations skills with a helpful, service-oriented approach.

  • Flexibility, enthusiasm, and ability to work effectively and relate to people of varying ages and backgrounds.

  • Excellent computer software skills (Microsoft Office Suite, email, and electronic calendar) as well as proficiency for learning and using new software, equipment, and web-based technologies, including databases.

  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and accuracy, and the ability to handle multiple projects.

  • Strong ability to understand and follow instructions.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, with or without direct supervision, and to handle interruptions.

  • Ability to use discretion and judgment in a variety of situations.

  • Ability to manage stress and manage emergency situations.

  • Demonstrated dependability and reliability for attendance and punctuality.

  • Ability to lift to 25 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Library or front desk experience.

  • Experience in a college environment.
