Wethersfield High School has an anticipated opening for the 2026�2027 school year. Successful candidates will be responsible for the development and implementation of a dynamic high school library media program aligned with the Wethersfield High School curriculum and Vision of the Graduate. We are seeking a motivated and collaborative professional dedicated to fostering information literacy, digital citizenship, research skills, and a lifelong love of reading and learning.

Summary of Position:
We are seeking a passionate and innovative Library Media Specialist dedicated to creating a highly engaging learning environment that aligns with our Vision of the Graduate skills: Communicator, Problem-Solver, and Collaborator, equipping students for success in an ever-evolving world.
The ideal candidate will develop and manage a comprehensive high school library media program that supports curriculum, instruction, literacy development, and technology integration. The Library Media Specialist will collaborate closely with classroom teachers to design research-based learning experiences, support inquiry-based instruction, and promote critical thinking and ethical information use.
The successful candidate will foster a welcoming and inclusive learning environment that encourages independent reading, academic research, media literacy, and responsible digital citizenship. They will support students in becoming effective and ethical users and creators of information in multiple formats.
The Library Media Specialist will promote the independence of each student as a learner, effectively assess student needs and progress, and plan instruction to achieve meaningful learning objectives, including those tailored for exceptional learners. The ideal candidate will accomplish these goals through effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues and by utilizing engaging, inclusive, and student-centered practices.
Preferred candidates will demonstrate experience integrating technology, supporting interdisciplinary instruction, curating diverse and relevant collections, and leading collaborative professional learning initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive high school library media program aligned with district curriculum and Connecticut Core Standards;
  • Collaborate with teachers to design and co-teach research projects, inquiry-based units, and media literacy instruction;
  • Instruct students in information literacy skills, including research strategies, source evaluation, citation practices, and ethical use of information;
  • Operate and maintain a system for library attendance for students in study halls;
  • Promote digital citizenship, media literacy, and responsible technology use;
  • Curate, maintain, and evaluate a diverse and inclusive collection of print and digital resources that reflects student interests and curricular needs;
  • Manage library systems, circulation, budgeting, and acquisition of materials;
  • Integrate instructional technology resources and digital tools to enhance teaching and learning;
  • Provide professional support to faculty on emerging technologies, research tools, and instructional best practices;
  • Create and maintain a welcoming, flexible learning space conducive to collaboration, independent study, and innovation;
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to assist in increasing students' ability to accurately cite information within a variety of disciplines.
  • Encourage student engagement through reading initiatives, literacy programs, and school-wide activities;
  • Maintain effective communication with students, staff, families, and community partners;
  • Perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Qualifications:
? Master's Degree preferred, but not required;
? Connecticut certification as a School Library Media Specialist (062);
? Experience at the secondary level preferred;
? Demonstrated knowledge of information literacy standards, digital citizenship frameworks, and instructional technology integration;
? Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community;
? Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills;
? Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form;
? Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities, and maintain confidentiality;
? Knowledge of best practices in instruction and assessment;
? Ability to author routine reports, analysis, and correspondence;
? Ability to speak effectively before administrators, staff, parents, and students;
? Ability to work independently and efficiently.
