REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Library Media Specialist (NT) endorsement

Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies or equivalent

Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with PreK–12 students in an educational setting

Demonstrated experience integrating instructional technology in educational contexts

Library Manager

Manages the library media program, developing procedures to ensure efficient operation and equitable access to services

Maintains and administers the library circulation and catalog system (Follett Destiny)

Selects, purchases, and processes new materials; conducts regular collection weeding in accordance with district standards and CREW methodology

Expands access to information through curated online and digital resources, including MeL

Manages library and computer lab calendar to maximize instructional use and scheduling efficiency

Oversees library budget and maintains accurate expenditure records
Teacher
-
Collaborates with classroom teachers in designing, implementing, and evaluating standards-aligned instruction

Provides direct instruction in information literacy skills, research strategies, digital citizenship, and AI literacy
-
Supports differentiated learning experiences for diverse student populations
-
Co-teaches or co-facilitates lessons that integrate library resources with core curriculum
Information Consultant

Functions as the information and technology resource leader within the building
-
Consults with instructional staff in preparing and delivering effective lessons that leverage a wide variety of current and emerging technologies

Provides staff development in information resources, digital tools, copyright, fair use, and intellectual freedom
-
Serves as the staff resource on library-related policy matters, including copyright compliance and intellectual freedom
District Coordination

Provides guidance and leadership for the district library media specialist team (Y5–12 grades)

Collaborates with the Capital Area District Libraries (CADL) on programs, community partnerships, and best practices
-
Monitors and coordinates the district’s collection development, inventory, and weeding process documentation
-
Serves as a subject matter expert on library standards and practices for district curriculum and policy discussions
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
The position requires the ability to move throughout the library and building, lift and shelve materials (up to 30 lbs.), and use computers and technology equipment for extended periods. The work environment is a standard school setting. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the role.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary placement is in accordance with the HEA Master Contract salary schedule. The district offers a competitive benefits package including health, dental, vision, and life insurance, as well as Michigan Public School Employees’ Retirement System (MPSERS) enrollment.
