Library Operations Manager

This position is responsible for the development and ongoing management of the library’s physical and digital collections within a 50-branch public library system serving approximately 2.7 million residents with diverse informational needs across multiple languages and formats. The incumbent plays a critical role in the planning and execution of the department’s annual service plan, including the strategic allocation of the materials budget, the development and implementation of collection development policies and procedures, and the design of efficient workflows and ordering processes. The role also supports the achievement of departmental goals and objectives aligned with the Strategic Plan.

The role includes providing leadership and oversight to professional staff responsible for acquisitions, selection, cataloging, and vendor contract management and monitoring. In addition, the position requires strong collaboration and coordination with cross-functional departments, including Information Technology, Budget and Finance, Procurement, and library staff across all branches. Key responsibilities include applying analytical and evaluative skills to statistical reporting and data monitoring; effectively using Integrated Library Systems; and analyzing material usage across all formats. The incumbent is also responsible for evaluating and selecting research databases, learning platforms, and subscription-based educational resources, and for continuously assessing services and products to ensure relevance and effectiveness. Additional duties include managing vendor relationships, leading contract negotiations and renewals, monitoring trends and emerging issues within the library and information services industry, and evaluating current and future technologies that enhance staff productivity and expand access to library resources, thereby improving the overall customer experience.
