PART-TIME: 8 - 10 HOURS PER WEEK.

HIRING FOR 2 POSITIOINS.


Under the direction of the Library Director, and close supervision of the Assistant Librarians assists in the library's overall operations by re-shelving library materials, checking materials in and out and assisting patrons at the circulation desk.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Sorts and shelves all library materials, checks items in and out; straightens and maintains shelves by call number.
  • Works at the circulation desk as needed; greets patrons and assists with requests.
  • Assist librarians by helping readers locate books and other materials.
  • Helps with new book preparation.
  • Helps to prepare for and assist during library programming (story hour, summer reading, Family Fun Night, etc.)


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • High school junior or senior; OR
  • Equivalent combination of education (homeschooling)


NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS,
AND ABILITIES:

  • Basic knowledge of library practices and procedures; Dewey Decimal System; knowledge of children's, young adult, and adult literature helpful.
  • Must have abilities in working with the public; good interpersonal communication skills, knowledge of computer, internet, and research skills.
  • Work quickly and accurately; operate various office machines and equipment; establish and maintain effective working relationships with everyone within the library.
  • Ability to take initiative in addressing problems in day-to-day operations.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive records and information.
  • Ability to promote a positive attitude, and motivate peers to work as a team.


SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age by August of the year applying for the position.
  • Must be able to work evenings, Saturdays, and during summer vacations from school.

ENVIRONMENT:

The physical demands of this position and work environment characteristics described are representative of those that must be met or will be encountered by an employee while successfully performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and seeing. Common eye, hand, finger, leg, and foot dexterity exist. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, and discriminating thinking, and creative problem-solving. Occasionally lifts, carries, pushes, pulls, or otherwise moves objects weighing up to 30 pounds.


The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Work is performed in an office or other environmentally controlled room.
