Phoenix Public Library (PPL) serves a diverse multiethnic clientele of over 4.8 million people, with a central library, and 16 branches. Phoenix Public Library is looking to fill multiple Part Time / Temporary Library Page vacancies. A Library Page primarily performs manual and clerical duties in a library facility. They are responsible for shelving library materials in either alphabetical or numerical order, replacing misplaced items, locating requested items, and unpacking/packing boxes of library materials. They may perform other clerical tasks such as filing, discarding items from the computer database, and keeping statistics. Immediate supervision is received from a library clerical supervisor or a Librarian.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.

SALARY


$16.07 per hour.

BENEFITS


Part-time employees are eligible for earned paid sick time, city training, and free or discounted bus and light rail fares.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated ability to read and the ability to file or learn to file alphabetically and numerically.
  • Candidates will be required to:
    • Bend, stoop, and kneel repeatedly or continually over the course of entire shift.
    • Reach overhead to shelve books weighing up to three pounds.
    • Remain in a standing position for extended periods of time; from one continuous hour up to four total hours at a time per day while performing a variety of tasks.
    • Perform repetitive hand, arm, and body movements, including lifting books on a continuous basis for up to an hour at a time and for up to five hours or more.
    • Push a wheeled cart weighing up to 250 pounds across up to 175 feet of carpeted floor area.
    • Move objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds long distances (greater than 20 feet).
    • Work irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings.

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

Experience with:

  • Providing excellent customer service.
  • Working in a Library setting as a paid employee.
  • POLARIS Integrated Library System.
