Under the supervision of a Library supervisor; Performs a variety of paraprofessional duties in the Library including customer service; checking out materials; information and reference service, instruction, and circulation functions. Assists patrons with library systems and questions in-person, via phone and email; monitors library materials; coordinates various backend processes; troubleshoots equipment; coordinates projects and activities of others; participates in Library Outreach activities; identifies areas of opportunity and shares suggestions to address deficiencies in processes and procedures.
Distinguishing Characteristics: Under direct supervision, performs entry-level professional duties. Employees at this level initially work under close supervision while performing duties and learning the procedures related to the assigned area of responsibility.

Adult Services:
Education: Two (2) years of college required.
Experience: Six (6) months of experience in customer service required. Two (2) years of library experience preferred.
Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.
Licenses and Certifications: None
Other Requirements: Must be available to work nights, weekends, and some split shifts as required. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of: Basic library principles and practices; Organization of library materials including Dewey Decimal system; customer service methods and techniques; a variety of office equipment, software, and applicable databases; and human behavior and performance.
Skilled in: Analyzing and performing and/or managing a variety of library projects from planning through implementation; exercising initiative and independent judgment to make basic operational decisions and respond to various customer service needs using courtesy, persuasion and tact; effectively communicating, obtaining, and relaying information with staff, volunteers, and customers; teaching individuals and groups; multi-tasking and adapting to changing environments; learning and utilizing new processes, procedures, software, and equipment; resolving customer complaints and concerns; interpreting, applying, and explaining rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; using standard office practices and automated systems; using personal computer including Microsoft Office or similar word processing programs, email, and the internet; accepting responsibility for his/her actions; performing work accurately and thoroughly; following instructions, safety practices, and standard operating procedures in performing assigned tasks; communicating effectively, clearly, and concisely both orally and in writing; prioritizing workload and organizing time to meet deadlines; being punctual and attending work regularly; paying close attention to detail; and working effectively with people regardless of their race, sex, color, religion, national origin, age, disability, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, veteran' s status, genetics, or job type.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions: This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing in work areas, walking between work areas, and physically moving library materials, furniture, equipment, and other items is required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
