Library Specialist

Job Purpose

Under general supervision of the Librarian of Learning Resources Center, performs general operational duties in the management of the library to include, supervision of Work Study students and provides circulation and reference services to the campus community.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides circulation and reference services: assists patrons with using all library services: computers, website, online catalog, electronic resources, etc.
  • Performs daily opening/closing duties and monitors the safety and security of library users, library property, and facility.
  • Handles the day-to-day PASCAL Delivers (Interlibrary Loan) tasks: sending/receiving books to/from other colleges.
  • Collection Development tasks: assists with ordering library materials, shelf reading and maintaining the order of library resources.
  • Handles check-in and distribution of the daily mail; processing magazines/journals and newspapers on a daily basis.
  • Possesses technical knowledge of phone, computer and library related equipment and the ability to assist users.
  • Participates in staff development, college-wide meetings and activities, and college committees.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

High School Diploma and relevant library experience. Bachelor's degree may be substituted for work experience. PREFERRED: Associate's degree in a related field + 2 yrs experience in library work; or high school diploma + 4 yrs experience in library work.

Additional Comments

Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills are essential. Knowledge of electronic databases, computer word processing applications and Internet search methods. Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy, completeness, and thoroughness in work. Must demonstrate positive customer service skills; courteous, sensitive, tactful, with rapport & discretion. This is a full-time position with flexibility to work evening/weekend hours. Must be able to lift up to 10 lbs, push or pull materials/equipment. Valid driver's license required.
