This is a part-time position.The ideal candidate will be available to work afternoon hours on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. and Saturdays from 9:30 A.M. - 3:00 P.M.Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of paraprofessional library work including acquiring, cataloging, and circulating materials; assisting patrons; and supporting library programs and outreach. Provides excellent customer service to a diverse population and cultivates a library environment that is welcoming, inclusive, and safe for all patrons.While the primary assignment is literacy services, the position may also assist with general library services and programs as needed to support overall library operations in our welcoming community library.Library Technician I ($26.93/hour)Entry-level paraprofessional position focused on learning library operations, procedures, and customer service under close supervision. Performs routine tasks in circulation, public assistance, and materials handling. Advancement to Level II may occur after demonstrating consistent proficiency, reliability, and customer service excellence.Library Technician II ($29.69/hour)Journey-level position performing the full scope of paraprofessional library work under general supervision. Works independently within assigned service areas, supports programs and outreach, and may provide training or guidance to Library Technician I staff or volunteers. Demonstrates sound judgment and initiative in applying library procedures and supporting community engagement.Library Technician III ($32.74/hour)Advanced-level paraprofessional position responsible for coordinating major service areas, leading staff, and performing complex or specialized library functions. Exercises significant independence and decision-making authority, assists with policy interpretation, and contributes to collection development, program planning, and partnership initiatives.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Typically, the depth and breadth of duties/assignments increase at each level and may include, but are not limited to, the following: General Library Duties (All Levels)Provide courteous and efficient customer service, including readers’ advisory, reference, and circulation assistance.Respond to in-person, telephone, and electronic inquiries, referring questions to a Librarian when
appropriate.Support patrons with technology, including library computers, Wi-Fi, e-resources, and learning platforms.Assist with library programs and outreach activities for all ages and cultural
groups.Support collection maintenance, including processing, shelving, and weeding of materials.Assist with preparation of reports, data entry, and maintaining tracking or statistical records.Monitor patron behavior and ensure a safe and welcoming environment.Participate in library promotions, prepare flyers, and assist with facility scheduling.Perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance on library equipment; initiate repair requests as needed.Assist in training and mentoring volunteers and, where applicable, other Library Technician staff.Perform related duties as required.When Assigned to Literacy ServicesSupport literacy program coordination, tutor support, and learner registration.Coordinate literacy-related events, workshops, and outreach
activities.Help develop bilingual promotional materials, flyers, and signage.Maintain records related to tutor and learner participation and program reporting.Provide customer service to literacy program participants and act as a liaison between the Literacy Coordinator and library staff.Assignments to Literacy may be made based on library needs and employee skill and interest. Employees assigned to Literacy receive appropriate on-the-job training and support.
