POSITION 26S78 TITLE: Library/Media Center Aide
LOCATIONS: Glen Dale Elementary/Center McMechen
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Aide employed for the purpose of working in the Library/Media Center may be required to ride the bus conveying such youngsters and to assist with their needs in boarding and disembarking from the bus as well as assisting the teacher with classroom instruction, possibly assisting children with toileting needs, and lifting physically handicapped children as needed. Various duties as assigned by the principal.
The library/media center aide will be required to catalogue and shelve new and returned books, type cards for catalogue and books, file, charge books in or out, keep appropriate records, reproduce materials, dispense, operate, and service audio visual machines, develop learning centers, assist pupils in locating information, research and provide resource materials for staff members, teach media and Internet, and work with instructional technology throughout the school. Provide small group instruction based on the science of reading. Other duties are to be assigned by the principals as deemed necessary.
The applicant must be able to independently lift and toilet children 50 – 150 pounds and over.
The applicant will also demonstrate the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position as contained in the job description, with or without reasonable accommodation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The library/media center aide must provide demonstrable competencies in reading, writing, spelling, and mathematics. He/She will demonstrate verbal and written expression as well as the ability to appropriately manage young children through the use of certain behavioral management techniques. The aide will be required to demonstrate a working knowledge of first aid. The aide must be physically capable of lifting physically handicapped children in need of assistance.
Additional qualifications to be met by an aide employed to work in the library/media center will include a knowledge of the Dewey Decimal system and card catalogue, knowledge of an operational proficiency in working with office and audio-visual machines and other instructional technology, proficiency in typing/word processing, and the ability and temperament to work closely and effectively with children and staff members.
The applicant must pass the initial/yearly Bus Training offered by the transportation department since they may be called upon to serve on a bus run.
EMPLOYMENT TERM: Anticipated start date of August 13, 2026. (Normal contract: 200 days, eight hours per day.)
