Position Overview:
SLAM Miami is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Counselor to support the social-emotional well-being and academic success of our students. The ideal candidate will provide counseling services, implement prevention programs, and collaborate with staff, families, and community partners to foster a safe and supportive school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group counseling to students addressing social, emotional, and behavioral needs
- Conduct risk assessments and provide crisis intervention when necessary
- Develop and implement social-emotional learning (SEL) programs and workshops
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student success
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records in compliance with FERPA guidelines
- Refer students and families to external mental health services and community resources
- Participate in MTSS/RTI meetings and contribute to intervention planning
- Support attendance, behavior, and academic initiatives through counseling services
- Provide professional development and resources to staff on mental health awareness
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field
- Valid Florida certification/licensure (e.g., LMHC, LCSW, or School Counselor Certification)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children or adolescents (school setting preferred)
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and crisis intervention strategies
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working in a charter school or urban school setting
- Familiarity with SEL programs and behavior intervention plans
- Ability to build strong relationships with students and families
- Experience with data tracking and progress monitoring
