Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Position Overview:
SLAM Miami is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Counselor to support the social-emotional well-being and academic success of our students. The ideal candidate will provide counseling services, implement prevention programs, and collaborate with staff, families, and community partners to foster a safe and supportive school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide individual and group counseling to students addressing social, emotional, and behavioral needs
• Conduct risk assessments and provide crisis intervention when necessary
• Develop and implement social-emotional learning (SEL) programs and workshops
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student success
• Maintain accurate and confidential student records in compliance with FERPA guidelines
• Refer students and families to external mental health services and community resources
• Participate in MTSS/RTI meetings and contribute to intervention planning
• Support attendance, behavior, and academic initiatives through counseling services
• Provide professional development and resources to staff on mental health awareness

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field
• Valid Florida certification/licensure (e.g., LMHC, LCSW, or School Counselor Certification)
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children or adolescents (school setting preferred)
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and crisis intervention strategies
• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Preferred Skills:

• Experience working in a charter school or urban school setting
• Familiarity with SEL programs and behavior intervention plans
• Ability to build strong relationships with students and families
• Experience with data tracking and progress monitoring
