Responsibilities
- Assist patients in selecting eyewear that fits their prescription, lifestyle, and personal style, ensuring optimal comfort and vision correction
- Conduct comprehensive eye exams and assessments, including measuring vital signs and evaluating physiology and anatomy knowledge to support accurate prescriptions
- Operate and maintain optical laboratory equipment, including laboratory experience with lens fabrication and Aseptic technique for safe handling of materials
- Manage electronic medical records (EMR systems) such as Epic or similar platforms, ensuring accurate documentation of patient interactions, medical history, and billing information in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Provide excellent retail sales support by educating patients on lens options, frame styles, and optical accessories while applying retail math skills to optimize sales performance
- Collaborate with ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals within clinics specializing in pediatrics, senior care, or general ophthalmology to deliver integrated patient care
- Ensure adherence to medical coding standards and medical billing procedures for accurate insurance claims processing and record keeping
Skills
- Strong knowledge of ophthalmology practices, physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to eye health
- Experience with EMR systems such as Epic or other electronic health record platforms; familiarity with clinic workflows is a plus
- Proficiency in optical experience including frame fitting, lens selection, and laboratory work; laboratory experience is highly valued
- Excellent communication skills for explaining complex concepts related to vision health to diverse patient populations including pediatrics and senior care clients
- Ability to perform vital signs measurement accurately and understand medical records management in compliance with HIPAA standards
- Sales aptitude combined with retail management skills to enhance customer satisfaction while meeting sales targets
- Knowledge of medical coding, medical billing procedures, and clinic experience necessary for seamless administrative operations
