What We Are Looking For

The Behavioral Health, LVN works under the supervision of the Director of Behavioral Health and Lead, LVN to coordinate and maintain a smooth operation within the psychiatry clinic. Performs patient oriented procedures and tasks within the scope of their education and training. Provides nursing care to patients who present with urgent, emergent, or potential health problems; utilizes knowledge of basic nursing principles, practices, and ethics.

Schedule: 5 Day per week, 8 Hour Days Mon-Fri, 8:00am-4:30pm, 30 minute lunch| Location: Brier Clinic, San Bernardino, CA

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DELIVERABLES

  • Utilizes nursing knowledge by reacting quickly, calmly, and professionally in emergent, life-threatening situations according to clinic protocol.
  • Assists with directing the Psychiatry back-office team on a day-to-day basis, ensuring job tasks are performed in a productive and high quality manner.
  • Assists with back-office duties such as vitals, injections, venipuncture, or procedures ensuring appropriate collection, handling, labeling, and processing of specimens.

  • Adjusts work pace when performing multiple tasks, maintains patient flow for optimal function and remains in a calm manner in a stressful environment.
  • Meets with the nursing team regularly to ensure optimal productivity, resolve problems, provide support, and maintain effective lines of communication. Offers suggestions for improvement of clinic operations.
  • Evaluates and documents incoming telephone calls, competently evaluates and advises under the direction of the Director, Behavioral Health.
  • Instructs, schedules, follows up with patients regarding test result, procedures; e.g. labs, imaging ordered by physician. Notifies patient/parent of test results after physician review.
  • Participates in Compliance and Risk functions according to SAC Health Policy and Procedures (expired meds, sterilization criteria, and weekly reports). Responsible for maintaining all back-office logs.
  • Cleans and maintains all patient care areas, medical equipment, and supplies according to SACHS Policy and Procedure. Maintains clean, orderly, and well-maintained work area.
  • Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of all patient care areas, work areas, medical equipment and supplies according to SAC Health Policy and Procedures.
  • Keeps up to date on all SAC Health programs, e.g., VFC, CHDP, FPACT, etc. Maintains current knowledge of all documents that direct practice, e.g., policies, clinical guidelines, ancillary guidelines, etc.
  • Performs specialized procedures as allowed by Nurse Practice Act and SAC Health policy.
  • Collaborates with entire medical support staff to facilitate smooth clinic functions and ensure appropriate teamwork.
  • Ability to be flexible to assist in all departmental areas when needed assigned by the LVN Lead.
  • Ability to collaborate, support and function in a teaching organization that builds, coaches, and embraces interns and residency programs. Must demonstrate a passion for the team and have the ability to consistently work with rotating providers, residents and interns, while continuously building a trusting, safe, patient centered workplace.
  • Other duties as assigned by department leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited LVN program. You may be able to substitute LVN School Accreditation with Completion of CA State equivalency method by those who have acquired formal nursing education and met hours and requirements listed by CA Board of Vocational Nursing.
  • Licensure/Certification: Current LVN License required with the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians; Current CPR/BLS certification (must be American Heart Association or Red Cross accredited program). As a requirement of this position, you must receive EPIC certification for the module you have been hired into.
  • Experience: Minimum of one (1) year medical office LVN experience preferred. Experience working in a behavioral health or addiction services clinic preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Must have proficient computer skills including data entry. Must be able to use a variety of office equipment including fax machine, scanner, printer and copier, answering telephones, good digital dexterity, and hand-eye coordination to utilize assessment tools.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Professional and strong communication skills in difficult situations. Ability to escalate concerns. Telephone etiquette required. Ability to translate medical information. Effective communication. Team oriented. Work in a team to accomplish specific goals, teach employees new procedures, demonstrate use of equipment/supplies, communicate by phone/in person with department staff and outside sources.
  • Essential Mental Abilities: Prioritize variety of assignments, follow moderate/complex instructions, proofread documents for content/context accuracy, recognize and appropriately report safety problems or other problem situations.
  • Work Eligibility: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Must not now or in the future require sponsorship for employment visas.
