Job Summary:
The Lift Operator (Lift Man) is responsible for the safe, smooth, and efficient operation of hospital elevators/lifts, ensuring patients, staff, and visitors are transported comfortably and securely between floors. The operator must remain alert, courteous, and maintain high standards of hygiene, punctuality, and discipline during duty hours. In emergency situations, the lift operator must act promptly to ensure safety and coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate lift/elevator as per hospital or building schedule, ensuring timely service to all floors.
- Assist patients, especially those on stretchers, wheelchairs, or in critical condition, in entering and exiting the lift.
- Ensure priority service for doctors, patients, and emergency medical staff.
- Maintain cleanliness and order inside the lift cabin at all times.
- Report any lift malfunction, unusual noise, or breakdown immediately to the maintenance team or supervisor.
- Ensure the lift is turned off or secured after duty hours or during maintenance.
- Follow safety protocols and never overload the lift beyond capacity.
- Maintain communication with security or facility control room in case of emergencies or lift entrapments.
- Keep record of daily operations (optional if applicable).
- Remain polite, helpful, and professional in all interactions with hospital staff and visitors.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Minimum education: Matric or equivalent.
- Previous experience in lift operations is preferred, especially in hospitals or multi-story buildings.
- Physically fit and well-groomed.
- Basic understanding of elevator safety and emergency procedures.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and follow instructions.
Working Conditions:
- Work may involve movement across hospital wards, rooftops, or maintenance areas.
- Must adhere to hospital infection control and PPE policies.
- May involve occasional emergency calls during odd hours.
