Job Title: Linehaul Driver Supervisor

Department: Linehaul

Reports To: Linehaul Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Schedule: Monday thru Friday with start times being between 7am and 9am working 8 - 10 hours a day with some weekends as needed based on freight levels

Traveling: Traveling required quarterly to New Braunfels/San Antonio as well as Atlanta.

Summary:

The Linehaul Driver Supervisor is responsible for overseeing a fleet of over-the-road (OTR) drivers, ensuring their efficiency, compliance/safety, and retention. This role requires excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills to optimize driver performance and maintain strong relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, coach, and support a fleet of OTR drivers to maximize efficiency and performance.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers, addressing concerns, resolving issues, and providing guidance to maximize driver satisfaction and retention.
  • Monitor driver hours, schedules, load assignments, and overall productivity to ensure on-time deliveries.
  • Collaborate with linehaul, maintenance, and safety teams to resolve operational challenges.
  • Foster a culture of safety and ensure compliance with applicable DOT, OSHA, and other related requirements.
  • Track and analyze key performance metrics, including fuel efficiency, driver safety score, miles per week, and on-time delivery rates.
  • Manage driver retention efforts by fostering a positive work environment and addressing concerns proactively.
  • Assist in recruiting efforts of hiring, onboarding, and training new drivers to ensure company standards are met.
  • Handle emergency situations, breakdowns, and accidents efficiently, providing support as needed.
  • Provide training, performance feedback, and disciplinary actions, as needed.
  • Oversight of truck maintenance to ensure equipment is safe and working order by collaborating with the Maintenance team as needed for scheduling PM’s and other repair work during driver home time when possible.
  • Utilize transportation management systems (TMS) and other software to streamline operations.
  • Other responsibilities may be added as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree in logistics, transportation, or a related field preferred. 2+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, or driver management. Previous experience, specifically as a dispatcher or fleet manager, is preferred. Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, transportation industry safety protocols and best practices.

Language Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with drivers. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from those within the organization. Bilingual in English and Spanish, preferred.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

Reasoning Ability: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make quick and effective decisions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Other Skills/ Qualifications: Proficiency in transportation management software and Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of the Samsara Telematics platform preferred. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously.
