Job Description: Logistics Executive/Assistant Manager (Inbound & Outbound)

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Logistics professional to manage and oversee inbound and outbound logistics operations for our steel manufacturing business. The role involves coordination of domestic and international shipments, customs clearance, vendor and transporter management, and ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of raw materials (coal, ferroalloys, scrap), finished products, and capital equipment (Capex item

Key Responsibilities:

Inbound Logistics

Plan, coordinate, and monitor the receipt, transportation, and storage of raw materials (coal, ferroalloys, scrap, fluxes, etc.).

Liaise with suppliers, shipping lines, freight forwarders, and transporters for smooth and timely imports.

Ensure proper documentation for import consignments, including Bill of Lading, Invoice, Packing List, LC, and insurance documents.

Track shipment status and proactively resolve delays or bottlenecks.

Outbound Logistics

Oversee dispatch planning for finished steel products to domestic and international customers.

Optimize transportation routes and modes (road, rail, sea) to reduce cost and improve delivery timelines.

Coordinate with sales, production, and warehouse teams for order fulfilment.

Manage transporters, carriers, and third-party logistics providers (3PL).

Customs & Regulatory Compliance

Handle all customs clearance activities for imports (coal, ferroalloys, Capex machinery, etc.) and exports.

Ensure compliance with DGFT, Customs Act, GST, Port regulations, and other applicable laws.

Prepare and file necessary Bills of Entry, Shipping Bills, Duty Drawback, EPCG/Advance License, IGCR rules compliance where applicable.

Maintain liaison with customs brokers, port authorities, and government officials to ensure timely clearance.

Logistics Management & Cost Control

Negotiate freight rates with shipping lines, transporters, and freight forwarders.

Monitor logistics KPIs like freight cost per ton, transit time, delivery accuracy, detention/demurrage charges, etc.

Minimize detention, demurrage, and storage costs through proactive planning.

Implement systems to track and optimize logistics costs.

Documentation & MIS Reporting

Maintain accurate records of imports, exports, transport, and customs documentation.

Generate periodic MIS reports on inbound/outbound logistics, freight cost analysis, and customs activities.

Support audit requirements related to logistics and customs.

Qualifications & Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, or related field (MBA/PGDM preferred).

5–10 years of experience in logistics management in steel, cement, mining, or heavy industry.

Strong knowledge of import-export regulations, customs clearance, and DGFT procedures.

Familiarity with handling bulk cargo (coal, ferroalloys) and capital machinery imports.

Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP/Oracle/Tally), MS Excel, and logistics tracking tools.

Strong negotiation, vendor management, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple shipments simultaneously.
